iDuino - Breadboardable Arduino Clone

Introduction

The iDuino is the answer to several problems, primarily how to use an Arduino in a breadboard. There are many solutions now, but as far as we know, the iDuino was the first to include onboard USB.

Particulars

Specifications:

• Exposes all Arduino NG pins and the reset pin, exposes all Arduino Diecimila pins except 3.3V.
• Fits into a standard breadboard at only 0.700" wide.
• Onboard USB using the same FT232RL used on the Arduino.
• Pin 13 and Power LED.
• ATmega168 microcontroller. (Pre-programmed with the Diecimila boot loader, if purchased as a kit.)
• Auto-reset, just like the Diecimila.
• The kit contains all through-hole components, no surface mount work required.
• Integrated diode for USB power isolation, or optional jumper.

Differences from the Arduino:

• Shields will not 'plug in' because the physical shape is so different. You can, of course, use wires to connect the shield to the iDuino pins.
• A 16MHz resonator is used instead of a crystal. This saves space and cost, and in almost all instances results in identical performance; testing has shown correct UART (serial), PWM, etc timing between -10c and +80c.
• All through-hole parts except the FT232 IC. You're free to experiment and adjust the kit components.
